Sandown Postponed! 24 Heures du Slipstream. What Next?

1 - Sandown

Due to a bad case of falling damp, the Sandown six hour race has been postponed until the 17th August. Colin and I were receiving calls from 'worried of everywhere' expressing concern about spending six hours in an open car on slick tyres when it was absolutely chucking it down - Wimps. The forecast was so bad on Friday we decided to postpone. Needless to say, Saturday was a lot better but with the information to hand on Friday we felt it was better not to run. A shower during the race is one thing, but six hours in heavy rain wouldn't be very nice and raises the possibility of someone getting hurt. We have lost a couple of teams due to the change of date so there are places available if anyone wants in, Colin or I have some spare sets of regs.

2 - Slipstream 24 Hours

Slipstream Racing has organised a 24 hour endurance race for up to 15 teams of 5-10 drivers on 4th-5th of October. The cost per team is £500 with a 50% deposit being required with the entry. With a one hour pre-race practice/qualifying session, that works out at just £20 per hour. There are two entries in already, if you are interested call Gary or Van on 01276 685655. Slipstream now has a large electronic display just after the start/finish line which shows the last lap time of each car - so everyone - your team mates, the other drivers, etc. can see how slow you are going. I don't know if the new board has provided an extra incentive, but the track record is now down to 29.76s.

3 - Where to Now?

I have already been asked what, where and when our next event will be. Since we have postponed Sandown until the 17th August, it looks as though late September would be the earliest we could do anything. Sandown can run a two hour event in an evening so long as we finish by 21:30 - which means a fairly early start, or we can do 2-6 hours at a weekend. Alternatively, we could go back to indoor tracks - Daytona, Formula Fun, Slipstream, Track 1. Any thoughts?
