Sandown News. Slipstream Layouts.

1 - Sandown

There are currently nine entries for the Challenge Race at Sandown on the 28th June with teams in from BP, BT, Carpenter's Autos, Online Technology and Southern amongst others. With at least another four in entries preparation if you want in you better get a move on.

The extra prizes have been ordered from Duckhams Oils and I hope to see them soon.

2 - Slipstream

As mentioned last month, the track at Slipstream Racing in Camberley has been lengthened.

Gary has produced diagrams of the two current layouts. The 230m long 'Grand Prix' circuit is used for individual racing.

The full 400m circuit is used as the name suggests for endurance racing. Last time I was there, lap times were down to 30.61s from the original 34.41s set on the day the new layout was first opened. It might be possible to break the 30s barrier before the summer is out.

Both circuits are more 'flowing' than the previous layout. Average speeds are higher than before but overtaking still requires some effort.

The two new chassis have arrived and been set up. One in the existing configuration and one with a more reclined seat which gives lighter steering and a bit more 'arm room'. I tried the standard setup machine - with orders not to bend it - and it felt really good, I hope to get back soon and try the other one for comparison.

I don't know if they have been raced yet or just kept as the 'spares' but one of the marshals suggested they might buy a complete set of them for racing only and using the old one's for practice - rather like at Sandown. I think that is a great idea, but then I don't have to pay for them.
