Roger Binyon
is still watching his new graphite-grey DAM 4100 (next-generation 6R4) take shape at Dave Appleby's. He took his Montego testing at Brooklands and to the Wexford with Christine Daniels.
The ECU overheated on Wexford, putting him out after the third stage when he was 15th overall. Undaunted, he will be using it again on the Tour of Mull in October with Catherine Phillipson.
John Blaber
continued his Mintex campaign on the Trackrod Forest Stages on 29th September. An electrical gremlin reappeared and the petrol pump failed on the spectator stage over Oliver's Mount. Trying narrower tyres on the back of the Group A 1600cc 205 led to two spins in Langdale.
On the final spectator stage which was very slippy they ran wide and hit something hard in the grass, breaking the rack They somehow got out but broke a drive shaft and had to retire.
John keeps his championship lead with only the Midland still to run.
Neil Cloughley
had an excellent outing with Christine Daniels on the Southsea Stages. As the car has a 16v engine he was in the over 2000cc class and was delighted to come 5th in class and 22nd overall. After his recent problems, the car "went like a dream".
Steve Coles/Sue Mandy
are out on the 3rd November at Flookborough in their new L.A.D.-built 106 Rallye. They will be starting off in single-venues and working up to the forest in the middle of next year.
Helen Davey/Graham Davey
came 10th overall on the Holland Birkett night trial (so if you want to know what a night trial really is, ask them).
Lee Earnshaw
is finishing the build of his Alfa Romeo 33 and is hoping to be out on the WouldBeGood stages in November - if not before...
Vanessa Linley
had to drop out of the Southsea stages but is making plans for next year.
Robert Marshall/Jason Waterman
were out on the Southsea stages in their Lada. Things started to go wrong on Friday 13th with an oil leak during a rolling road session and continued on the Saturday when the ratchet strap snapped with the car on the trailer. Finally on the first lap of the first stage their engine partially seized and they had to retire (Is this the Curse Of Phillipson following their feature in "Our Car last month? - Ed)
Sue Orchard/Graham Morris
had a fine outing on the Wexford rally, coming 2nd in class and 42nd overall, leaving them 2nd in class in the EARS/MN championship.
They found it a very tough event, with high speed stages following quickly together.
Catherine Phillipson
was out with Dick Archer on the Manx International. They survived a big moment on the fourth bend of the test stage (very embarrassing) but rolled heavily on stage 14 and had to retire. Catherine is out on the RAC with Richard Worts in the ex-works Corsa.
Richard Phillipson/Catherine Phillipson
were also out on the Trackrod and came 5th in class and 33rd overall. The day was made difficult by problems with the brakes but all seemed to be going reasonably well until three separate offs on the final spectator stage dropped them a minute and a class position.
Michael Weeks
has been visiting a rally school, learning to drive a rear-wheel drive Toyota Corolla. The day was marked on speed, technique, control and positioning, and he came 2nd out of 16. More trials and scatters are planned too.
