PRESS RELEASE

SAFETY FIRST!

As entries continue to arrive for the RALLYE SUNSEEKER, the first round of the 1999 Mintex National Rally Championship, the organisers -Southern Car Club Ltd and Croydon & District Motor Club Ltd - are putting together a SAFETY & MARSHALS TRAINING EVENING on MONDAY 8th FEBRUARY.

Run by CHRIS HARDING, the ACSMC Training Officer, the course will take place at the Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate Hill (on the A217) and proceedings commence at 8.30pm.

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the south of England's premier motorsport event which takes place on Saturday 27th February, either as a marshal or on the safety side, is welcome to attend.

Meanwhile 1997 Mintex champion BRIAN LYALL returns to the event in his Subaru Impreza, with similar cars entered for IAN GWYNNE and Irishman KENNY McKINSTRY - the tarmac expert has committed to a season of Mintex events and begins his campaign in Bournemouth.

ITV Formula I pundit TONY JARDINE has entered his Mitsubishi Lancer EVO4 - the car is the one in which Markko Ipatti won the Production Cup in the 1998 British Rally Championship and Tony, himself, took the Fleet Street Award for the highest-placed Journalist on the Network Q Rally of Great Britain last November.

The Rallye Sunseeker is also the opening round of the 1999 Ford Ka Championship and, this year, former racing driver DAVID HENDERSON has forsaken the circuits for a season of rallying. On his first event, David put several turbo-charged four-wheel drive cars to shame by finishing In the Top Ten of the Lindisfarne Rally on the treacherous Otterburn Ranges in his 1400cc Ka!
